after serving a chai concentrate in our coffeebars for many years, we thought that we could create something better, something more authentic. many chai concentrates are just too sweet, and doug palas, intelligentsia's tea buyer, wanted to create something that struck just the right balance between sweet and spicy. our chai is a blend of black tea, cardamom, cinnamon, pepper, clove and ginger. its the place where spicy and sweet meet in perfect balance.
a blend of traditional indian spices and brisk black tea, our organic masala chai is best prepared with warmed milk and just enough sugar to bring out the spices intricacies.
we mean it when we say this decaf is delicious. orange sherbert and tootsie roll candy combine with a tangy citrus and tamarind acidity. the mouthfeel is creamy and smooth all the way to the malted milk ball finish.

a satisfying cup that offers up crisp red apple and caramelized pear notes with a good deal of chocolate. el mago magically turns this compelling blend into something that is definitely not your typical decaf!

incredibly balanced with a soft acidity alongside a creamy round mouthfeel. notes of blanched almonds, nougat and cherry make way for a nutmeg and cinnamon finish.
a delicate and silky composition sustains the crispness of a citric acidity. sweet coriander and lemongrass surface initially while violet and wild honey surge as it cools. the finish brings additional floral notes with a resounding tea-like aftertaste.
gardenia aromatics soar into a homemade cherry cola flavor with hints of praline and toasted nut. the mouthfeel is soft, round and stable while the acidity blooms right before the finish with a mandarin orange burst before tapering into a lingering tart cider aftertaste.
brown sugar, mango and fudge cool and expand into dried pineapple and honeyed notes. the mouthfeel is creamy yet buoyant with a clean, concise finish.
layered and deep, abundant notes of currant, hibiscus flower and red wine perch beside a pomelo-like acidity. the finish brings a lingering nutmeg-clove spice to the compact body.
ethereal and luminous. lychee, persimmon and botanical notes bring a weightlessness to the muscular and expansive tegu. marmalade and sweet herbs float in the background while the finish hangs onto a hint of spice.
we're thrilled to have this coffee in our line-up again. abundant creamy swiss milk chocolate surrounds a lemondrop candy acidity with a tiny edging of fresh blackberries. floral hints of violet blossoms whisper in the background while the finish resounds with warm chocolate cake notes.
anchored and weighted, dark berry notes and melon circle round a chocolate center that sustains into a lingering finish. the acidity adds lift with a lime-like presence.
expansive and mouth-coating; a lime-like acidity cuts to spirited notes of rhubarb, white grapefruit and green apple. the finish is punctuated with an array of dry spice: clove, cedar and juniper.

the slightly spicy malt character of our organic english breakfast gives way to sweet dried fruit flavors and delicate notes of spice. the rich and smooth body creates a cup with layers of depth not often found in breakfast teas. the sugary finish is slightly citric with a lingering flavor of toasted malt.

our bao zhong is a lightly baked oolong with delicate flavors of lilac, lily, and green tea. the body is light and delicate. it finishes with a crisp and refreshing, lingering floral note. while bao zhong makes a great hot tea, it's refreshing character can best be enjoyed by placing 4 or 5 tablespoons of tea in a pitcher, covering with cold water, and steeping refrigerated overnight.

Is there a bathroom here??
I had a chocolate croissant, and it was honestly worth the $5! So buttery and rich, a perfect breakfast pastry. I’m not a fan of intelligentsia coffee personally as they’re too fruity for my darker palate BUT I would return to this location for the food items and to try other baked goods. They have parfaits and such as well
MorePossibly the finest coffee in the world
Nice little coffee shop in downtown that has a classic feel to it. I ordered an Americano for there and to go (for a friend) and it tasted great! It's one of those coffee shops you go to when you want to get away from the regular chains like Dunkin or Starbucks.
MoreBeat the rush and it feels good to be back in Chicago with an early morning Blackcat Latte. Great job guys on an earning Saturday morning
MoreBest hot chocolate in the whole city, especially with the real whipped cream. Unfortunately, it's sometimes too cold and chairs are uncomfortable. I had a scone and it was dry and hard. Sometimes there's a wait.
MoreI was in Chicago for three day, and I was here twice. I stopped in because of the photos I saw on Yelp, and wow am I glad I did. The decor is amazing, but greatly overshadowed by the amazing drinks! I had a latte and I liked it a latte. Bad caffeine jokes aside, next time I am in the Windy City, I will make it a point to head back here!
MoreBy far the best coffee I've had! I've noticed all of the intelligentsia coffee stores all really take time into brewing their coffee which makes it really nice. This place beats Starbucks x100.
MoreBeautiful coffee experience! Yummy vegan cookies available 😃
One of my favorite coffee shops. Try the Angeleno!
What a coffee!!! Lot better than Starbucks or Dunkin 😄
Oat milk Latte hit the spot!
Very friendly service, clean space in a gorgeous and historically important building, and great coffee, as always.
MoreGood coffee. Nothing need to say more 🙂
Was once an employee. I admire their values implemented in the work place as well as their exceptional service and AAA grade coffees. Their extraction and roasting process is pure perfection. Same deal goes for their tea, top notch quality and the extraction process they use coincides with how they would traditionally from the region it is brought.... as a side note, I also recommend ordering the chai, hot or cold, ask for oat milk. you will not be disappointed.
MoreI had a mocha here once and then five more times since last month..That speaks for itself .
MoreThe cold brew was alright. Skimpy. It was all foam at the top and once it settled there was maybe half a cup of coffee. Not good enough to be that expensive. Starbucks’ cold brew is stronger
MoreAlways great service and of course the coffee is great! Perfect start to my morning
MoreThe espresso is quite good and they give you a small glass of sparkling water with it which is a very nice touch. I also have had some of their pastries which are very good, I would recommend the Espresso creme muffin, the old fashioned donuts are also very good. The mochas they make are more sweet and milky than I prefer but if that's your thing than you'll definitely enjoy them. Intelligentsia is a great coffee shop worth going to and its in the Monadnock building which is a plus if you enjoy historic buildings.
MoreAmiable staff, good ambience, amazing latte art, but the latte tasted bland...
Was in Chicago for a conference and went to Telli in the mornings for a coffee and pastry. I would recommend the ham and cheese pastry. I am a black coffee drinker and had the pour over they had on hand that day. Coffee as in other locations was good and the staff is friendly. I purchased beans both e the Peru and persephone blend. Can’t really recommend these beans. They aren’t bad per say but nothing special and was a bit disappointed when I started using these at home.
MoreThere is a reason that coffee shops and restaurants in Chicago proudly display Intelligentsia coffee in their windows- it is the best. They also make the absolute best matcha latte in town.
MoreThe staff weren't very helpful. Hope they can be more friendly and more organized.
MoreA step up from Starbucks to say the least. These guys have it down to a science; they’re so efficient, knowledgeable about their craft and products, and to top it off they have such a classy appearance to compound the overall look of the shop. One of the best coffees I have had, and that is no exaggeration.
MoreA little pricey. But I chose this over Dunkin’ Donuts for a reason... coffee snobs will love it!
MoreGreat place very committed to good coffee and a friendly service. I always go here when I am in town for my coffee. Nice donuts too!
MoreI was only here one time and for under an hour, but it was a good experience worthy of 5 stars. The coffee I had was very good, and my wife had a very good oat milk latte, both of which were reasonably priced. The vibe of the place was very cool - Clean bathrooms, nice staff, roomy interior, and the surrounding area is very cool too.
MoreCoffee was really good and the people were friendly. Just limited seating and pretty expensive
MoreHigh end coffee shop with a clear high brow feel! You'll pay no less than four dollars for most coffee but the quality befits the Prime Minister! Also, their retail is beautifully designed for a true Chicago feel with a less tourism vibe.
Moredo not leave if it's busy, it is worth it. next time i'll be back with my relatives. prices that are reasonable. like a restaurant in washington i liked.
MoreVery good coffee and a small but nice selection of pastries and other goodies to go with
MoreHad a hot latte. Super good on a cold day. The coffee shop was a bit small if staying but I took mine to go.
MoreGreat plce to have 3rd wave coffee. Also offering fresh beans from various countries.
MoreFriendly staff, great coffee, good barista work, and delicious snacks. Sometimes I think it helps to have some background knowledge to order and discuss the coffee with the staff, but most are really friendly and helpful in choosing the right bean.
MoreI remember driving from Ohio State all the way up for Lollapalooza. Just happened to park in structure next door and stopped here before going to the museum. It was a life changing experience. Best coffee I had ever had In my my life. Something akin to remembering where you were when Kennedy died or the Challenger exploded. The ambiance of the place and the cappuccino left a mark. I had already been all over Europe to the famous coffeehouses throughout. This place got to me, just like Cafe Yaucono in Puerto Rico is a taste like no other. Now some 20 years later I’m in LA, intelligentsia is all over and even in the high-end supermarkets. To this day the taste is unique and delicious af.
MoreThe donut was too sweet..but the coffee was okay and I enjoyed the atmosphere very much.
MoreI have ordered this for lunch multiple times and have always been happy with the sandwiches. I also like that they have sodas from other countries which I do enjoy sometimes.
MoreCool, fun, trendy and down right awesome. Staff are very kind and genuine. Delicious latte and yummy fresh morning role with orange zest.
MoreOne of the better coffee shops around in the area. The dessert selection still needs to improve.
MoreI am changing my review. I really love a good cup of coffee. Not a regular cup of joe; something that needs to be doctored up to ensure that it can be enjoyed on the go or by individuals with a lessor palate. I am taking a cup of coffee where the flavor is everything and the bean is showcased in all its true splendor. This is what you will find at Intelligentsia. I love the Mocha because it is rich yet not sickening sweet, which has a tendency to mask the unique flavors of the chocolate and coffee. I also love the different coffee varieties they bring to the country that you would not normally find at your local Beanary or Grocer. If you appreciate coffee for more then just its caffeine, this is the place for you.PS, the staff is very knowledgeable so test their skills, it will make you a better customer in the end.
MoreExcellent coffee and atmosphere. A bit too pricey for coffee
One of my favorite things to do when I travel is check out that particular city’s coffee scene. Intelligentsia ranks up there with some of the best espresso I’ve had in the US. Definitely worth a visit (or 4, in the case of my trip to Chicago). Had a soy cappuccino and latte, as well as an oat cappuccino and latte. All were fantastic. Great vegan cookie, too!
MoreOne of my favorite Chicago coffee spots. Helps that it is located in the beautiful, historic Monadnock building.
MoreThe ambiance was cozy and nice. Baristas were friendly and polite too. They recommended the best coffee I ever tasted.
MoreI love their coffee. Is worth the wait.
Tried this place today for the first time while visiting Chicago, and I must say this was the best espresso I’ve had. Very smooth and no harsh aftertaste. Perfection!
MoreIntelligentsia consistently produces the best coffee. The baristas are skilled and have excellent customer service skills. Despite the excellent product, their baristas don't have the snooty affect often found at specialty cafes.
MoreEvery time I go, the coffee and espresso are on par. One of the best in the city and well worth. I love to sit in when there's a table available but sometimes that's a hard bargain. This place will spoil any average coffee shop for you.
MoreGreat coffee shop in the loop. Intelligentsia has some of the best coffee in Chicago. I like that there is always a wide variety of options, either blends or single origin. This shop is unique with the more classic style compared to other Chicago locations. Always impressed with the staff as well, super helpful and willing to answer detailed coffee questions, if you have any.
MoreI love this place but as of today I am priced out of spending time here. $5 for a macchiato that used to be 2.50, and $4.50 for a small drip coffee. That's not pourover. That's before tip and tax. If you want a slightly cheaper place with more power outlets and equal ambiance, walk a couple blocks north to Two Zero Three.
MoreLove this place and both their high quality, perfectly roasted and absolutely delicious coffee, as well as the friendly and knowledgeable staff.
More
